Here we go again.  The sixth and last tournament for the Mother Lode Region of the Best Bass Tournament Circuit was held at the Delta on Saturday, July 7, 2012.  I don’t know about you but this season seemed to just fly by (and I don’t mean fly fishing either).  This was by far the biggest and best tournament for the Mother Lode Region this year.  There were 77 boats, 3 small boats and 74 large boats and we had at least one boat from all five regions of the Best Bass Tournament Circuit.  What an accomplishment for the Mother Lode Region.  This was also a six hour tournament but that didn’t keep our anglers away. The pickup was loaded with the Lance Camper and the Trailer behind it, when we pulled out of the yard at 10:30a.m.  A quick stop at the Bank to get change and then on to the freeway, we were headed to the Delta.  A phone call from Randy Pringle added a detour to our trip so that we could pick up some much needed supplies.  Then back to the freeway and on to the Delta.  We arrived at Russo’s at about 2:30 p.m. By 4:00 p.m. we were set up and ready for pre-signs.  Several anglers came by, registered and picked up their boat numbers for the morning.  We set up camp and went to bed early knowing that Kevin would have us up by 3:00 a.m. in the morning.  Someone needs to teach this guy some better sleeping habits. I don’t believe it but the boats started coming in around 3:45 in the morning.  We were able to go to the office and do registration there.  What a treat to be indoors and out of the elements.  I’m sure some of the campers didn’t really appreciate us being up so early but nobody said a word.  Anglers came in and registrations were filled out and boat numbers were given.  Boat checks were done in the parking lot and on the water also.  What a treat for the Mother Lode Region to sponsor such a large tournament. Safe light came and Kevin the Director went out to start the tournament.  Directions were given and boat flight times were announced and the boats were ready to go.  The three small boats were sent out first.  Lucky chip number 53 was drawn by Lisa from Russo’s.  Thank you Lisa for all your help.  Next boat number 53 was sent out with the rest of the boats in order.  We setup five flights with the first one to return at 11:45 a.m. and the last one at 12:45 p.m. Now back to the camper for some breakfast and to finish the paperwork.  A few more banners were hung up, the weigh scale and bump tanks were setup and we were ready for the anglers to come back in. If you were at our tournament you would know that things didn’t stop there.  This was the last tournament for the season and if you know Kevin you know that he always tries to serve a treat to the anglers for a thank you.  This year was no different and the anglers were treated to chili and cheese nachos.  There was also iced tea, cold water and cold fifty one 50 energy drinks. Our first anglers came in ready to weigh their fish just before noon.  Dave Orange from Who-Be-Do Jigs is our weigh master for the Mother Lode Region.  With the help of his brother Brian the two men started to weight fish.  As the anglers came in they placed their fish into one of the bump tanks to take the pressure off the fish.  Again it is very important for our anglers to take the best care of the fish as possible.  After the fish were weighed the anglers were given a ride on a golf cart back to the water to release the fish.  Kevin called the scales closed at 1:15 p.m. We weighed in 297 fish for a total weight of 782.47 pounds. While we were getting the awards ready the anglers enjoyed seconds on the nachos.  After a few minutes or so we were ready to start giving money away.  We had $8,940.00 to give back to the anglers.  Let the fun begin. First place went to the team of J P Gano of Antioch and Shawn Taylor of El Sobrante for their bag of five fish weighing in at 24.35 pounds.  J P and Shawn were in all the options and they also had the first place big fish weighing in at 10.23 pounds.  This beautiful bag of fish gave them $3,190.00 to take home.  Lets’ hope they keep some of that money so that they can pay to fish the Circuit next year.  These anglers used 6” roboworms and Berkley Pit Boss lures.  The methods they used were drop shot and punching.  They caught their fish in the middle Delta.  Congratulations to the two of you for a job well done. The team of Terry Flowers and John Shevak of Tracy came in second place with their five fish weighing in at 20.06 pounds.  They were in all the options and also had the third place big fish weighing 7.53 pounds.  For second place Terry and John took home $1,640.00.  They fished in the south Delta and used Buzz Baits and Plastics.  They would like to thank Tracy Oasis for their sponsorship.  Keep up the good job guys. Third place went to the team of Obedie Williams and Clint Groenewold of Disco Bay.  Obedie and Clint were in all of the options and took home $905.00 for their five fish with the combined weight of 19.85 pounds.  Frog lures and punching is what they used while fishing in the West Delta.  They would like to thank Ripp’n Lipps Ent. for their sponsorship. Scott Burke and Garrett Maddex took fourth place with the weight of 19.75 pounds for their five fish.  Along with being in all the options, Scott and Garrett also took second place big fish with a weight of 8.21 pounds.  A check in the amount of $1,000.00 was taken home by these two anglers.  Keep fishing. The 20/20 Eye Surrender Award went to the team of Matt Lyndsey and Mike Sanders.  The Lenox target weight was 11.19 pounds and this award went to the team of Mike Martinez and Duane Goudy.  The Beat the Lenox Boat weight and the Wear-it Campaign – Inflatable PFT Vest awards will both go to the TOC because the teams left early.  The ABT Award went to the team of Richard and Lisa Lewis. The Region Director Kevin Cheek, his daughter Chelby, his mother Ancilla, our weigh master Dave Orange along with the rest of the Who-Be-Do team, Brian Orange, Mario Ramirez and Shawn Hilbert, along with our staff boats Duane Goudy and Mike Martinez along with Rich Hale and Jim Henry would like to take this time to thank each and every one of the anglers who fished with us for the Mother Lode Region of the Best Bass Tournament Circuit this year.  This has been a fantastic first year and we have all enjoyed being there to work with you.  We wish you all a safe summer and look forward to seeing you all again next year. I would like to thank my staff for a job well done at this tournament, directing this event Kevin Cheek and my staff Ancilla, Chelby, Dave Orange, Brian Orange, Mario Ramirez, Shawn Hilbert, Mike Martinez and Duane Goudy.
