We kicked off our fourth tournament of the season at Lake
Margarita on Sat. April 5, 2014. The water levels were once again low so we had
to deal with the one lane launch ramp again, so our anglers were their early
and ready to get out on the water. We held our check-ins at 4:45am once again
in front of the KOA store. We had a total of 32 boats show up for today’s
event. The anglers were sent out at safe light in flights of two with the first
due back at 3pm.
The owner of the marina was kind
enough to allow us to use his covered patio once again for our weigh ins.
Around 1:30 we began to get everything set up for our weigh ins. We got our
table set up with our scales and our tubs and our second table set up with our
prizes, plaques, and our Diamond Food Emerald Nuts Display. We got our sponsor
banners hung and once we were all set up the wind began to blow. We made a few
adjustments and we were ready to begin. As the anglers began to come up for
weigh in most of them said they had a much better day on the lake then they did
last month.
As the weights were all being
calculated the anglers enjoyed some Diamond Food Emerald Nuts and we began to
raffle off prizes from our amazing sponsors. The winners of a Batrums t-shirt
were boat #17 Chase Austin and Brad Austin. Our second prize of a Batrums
service certificate went to boat #5 Martin Zillig and Erik Zillig. Thank you to
all our sponsors.
Our First place winner of the day was Austin Bonjour brining
in 5 fish with a total weight of 21.48lbs. He also had the biggest fish of the
day at 5.78lbs. He took home total winnings of $1485.00. Austin says he went
after the bed fish this time, fishing in the river using jigs.
The team of Matt Clausen & Troy
Tidwell took second place with a total 5 fish weighing in at 19.56lbs. They
also had our first place big fish of 7.05lb giving them total winnings of $1025.00.
Matt and Troy say they got lucky that day fishing the dam using senkos.
Third place went to the team of Jay
Short and Damon Meeks. They weighed in 5 fish totaling 19.16lbs. They also
caught our fifth biggest fish giving them total winnings of $515.00. Jay and
Damon say they fished the main lake throwing crank baits.
Thank you to all of the anglers who came out today to fish
our tournament. I would also like to thank my staff Ray, Tim, Scott, Bobby and
Jennifer for doing a great job of helping the tournament go smoothly. Let’s
keep up the momentum as we head to the next one, you guys are great and I am
happy to be a part of this with all of you.
