The fourth tournament for the Mother Lode Region of the Best Bass Tournaments Circuit was held on Saturday, April 5, 2014.  The weather in the morning was a little cold but there was no wind.  The wind did come in about noon.  Even with the wind we were able to put up banners this time.  The 10 x 15 pop-up was in a fairly protected area so the wind did allow for banners and there were bleachers that we were able to hang banners from also. We loaded up the trailer and camper on Friday morning early.  With everything loaded and ready we left Fresno around 8:30 a.m.  The traffic was a little heavy but the weather was good.  Clear blue skies until we got to Merced and we could see the clouds start to move in.  The clouds in the mountains were dark and it looked like it could rain at any moment.  The weather forecast called for showers starting around 1:00 p.m. in the mountains.  We arrived at the Lake around noon.  It was difficult to see the water as low as it was, but the wild flowers were in full bloom.  There were numerous fields of purple flowers. We set up the 10 x 15 popup in front of the trading store at Fleming Meadows.  This is a nice protected area from the wind.  The truck and camper were leveled off and we were ready to set up for the next days' activities.  Tables were setup under the popup and the coffee pot was setup with water, coffee grounds and its timer.  The only thing worse than the walk downhill to the restrooms is the walk uphill back to the camper.  A few of the anglers took advantage of us being there early for pre-signs. Saturday morning started off early 3:30 a.m. wake up call and at 4:30 a.m. registration started.  There were a couple of boat that pulled in during the night so they were there early for registration, coffee and Mom's homemade goodies.  Blast off was scheduled for safe light at 6:45 a.m.  Registration was setup under the 10 x 15 popup and the boat checks were setup next to the bathrooms.  With a total of 65 boats, one small boat and 64 large boats, Kevin scheduled four flights for the weigh-in.  Kevin headed down to the water front for blast off around 6:25 a.m.  He went over the off limits and the tournament rules before sending of the small boat with a return time of 3:00 p.m.   The weigh-in was set for the Marina.   Boat number 21 was the lucky boat to blast off first.  First flight, boats 21 thru 35, was scheduled to return at 3:00 p.m., boats 36 thru 50 at 3:15 p.m., boats 57 thru 2 at 3:30 p.m.  and boats 3 thru 20 at 3:45 p.m.  With all this said and the anglers ready blast off went off as scheduled at 6:45 a.m. Kevin returned after blast off and the paper work and setup continued.  After the paperwork was completed and the bleachers turned and decorated with Sponsors banners  there was time to rest and get a bite to eat before heading down to the Marina to setup for the weigh-in.  The staff boats take most of the equipment needed down to the Marine early in the morning so we need to take the main essentials, scales, computers and paperwork with us.  We head down to the Marine at 2:00 p.m. to setup there.  Bump tanks need to be filled, Microphone need to be setup, along with the weight station and the fish slide. We are setup and ready for the first boats to arrive.  The weight-in goes off without a problem.  The scales are called closed at 4:03 p.m.  Now comes the job of tearing down and loading everything into the staff boats to be taken up to the parking lot.  The paperwork is completed and we are ready for the awards. Now a few stats for you anglers, with 65 boats we had 100% in Big Fish, we had 84% in the $10 option,  81% in the $20 option and 83% in the $30 option.  There was a total of 257 fish weighted in and a 100% survival rate.  Congratulations to you anglers for taking such good care of your fish.  So now lets hand out the money. Stan Penrod and David Bigger, took first place with their five fish weighing in at 14.50 pounds.  They also weighted-in 3rd place big fish at 4.32 pounds.  Stan and David were in all the options and took home the total earnings of $2,515.00.  They used weightless worms and shakey heads while fishing the Railroad Canyon area of the Lake.  We can't ask for a better job than that anglers.  Congratulations and keep up the good work. Second place went to the team of Robert Kirschner and Robert Muraco both of Gilroy.  Robert and Robert weighted-in five fish at 13.67 pounds and 1st place Big Fish at 7.46 pounds for a total winnings of $1,885.00.  These anglers used S Wave and weightless worms for lures and swim bait and finesse methods of fishing while fishing the South end of the Lake.  They would like to thank their sponsor Bigolpig for their support.  Also a big THANK YOU to their wives Mel Muraco and Camillia Kirschner for all their understand and support.  Great Job. Third place went to the team of Mike Goncalves of Modesto and Rob Mansor of LeGrange for their five fish weighing-in at 12.71 pounds and 2nd place Big Fish at 5.60 pounds.  Mike and Rob were in all the options and earned $1,155.00 for their day of fishing.  They used swim Baits and fish the slow methods in the Main Lake for their fish.  There's nothing left to say but great job anglers. Our next tournament for the Mother Lode Region will be on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Don Pedro Lake.  We will be at the Trading Post on Friday afternoon if you would like to stop by and pre-sign for the event.  If you don't get by on Friday, we will be open for registration at 4:30 a.m.  We can't wait to see all of you there. I would like to thank my staff boats, Duane Goudy and Mike Martinez, Brian Orange and Mario Ramirez and rich hale and Jim Henry, Weigh Master David Orange, staff helper Chris Orange and Mom and Chelby Cheek for all there help and work to make this tournament a success.  Sponsor Tackle Store Receipts Program – If you purchase tackle valued at $20 OR MORE from our Sponsor Tackle Stores, listed below or go Online to make purchases through the Optimum Baits and ima websites, you will receive a discount for being a member of the BBT.
