The sixth tournament for the Mother Lode Region of the Best Bass Tournament Circuit was held at the Delta on Sunday, June 8, 2014.  The anglers launched from Russo's at safe light.  The weather was hot and the bite was good.  The size of fish were smaller than expected but the number of limits brought in were high.  It seems that we just can't get away from the heat at the Delta.  Last year it was in the 100's and this year it was there also.  After the weigh-in the breeze came up and the weather cooled down. We left Fresno around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and headed to Randy Pringle's house in Salida.  After handing over paperwork and picking up supplies we headed for the Delta.  We arrived at Russo's around 6:00 p.m. and there was a cool breeze blowing.  Our weigh master Dave Orange was there and two of our staff boats were also there.  We set and visited for awhile and then decided it was time for dinner.  A short walk to the Rusty Port Hole and a great dinner.  After dinner it was back to the toy hauler and to sleep for 3:00 a.m. would come early. Kevin was the first up and it wasn't long after that and everyone else was up too.  Up to Russo's office for the signups and before you knew it was time for the blast off.  Kevin grabbed the bullhorn and his paperwork and headed to the dock.  We would like to thank Mark Giusti for being Kevin's blast off boat in the morning and being the check in boat in the afternoon.   Mark is a friend that Kevin fished against many years ago in a Family Bass Circuit that he and Chelby fished together in.  He and his wife were at the Delta celebrating their wedding anniversary and Mark volunteered to help out.  Thank you again Mark for helping out.  Maybe we can get you and your wife to fish the circuit with us next year. We had a total of four small boats and fifty large boats.  Lucky number nine was drawn for the first large boat to blast off.  At safe light Kevin released the small boats and then started with boat number nine.  The small boats had a check in time of 3:00 p.m. along with boats number nine thru twenty four.  The second flight was due in at 3:15 p.m. which included boats twenty five thru forty.  Boats forty one thru fifty and boats one thru eight were due in at 3:30 p.m. When Kevin came back to the Office we packed up everything and moved down to the Pavilion to set up for the weigh-in.  Banners were hung up, tables setup and bump tanks were set out.  Pay backs were calculated, envelopes were stuffed and paperwork was completed.  We were ready for the anglers when they returned.  Around 2:00 p.m. the bump tanks were filled and it was hard not to sit in the tanks to cool down.  We need to be a little bit more professional than that.  At least that is what Kevin said. One by one the boats returned for the weigh-in.  The anglers walked down the ramp to the weigh-in and Russo's golf cart staff gave them a ride back up the ramp to release their catch for the day.  The fish were weighted-in, pictures were taken and the scales were called closed by Director Kevin Cheek at  3:48 p.m.  There were 220 fish caught and only two fatalities for a total weight of 475.82 pounds.  The largest fish caught during the tournament came in at 7.19 pounds. Now I believe we need to get down to the important stuff.  Who won what. First place went to the team of Chad Smith of Hughson and Steve Melander of Atwater.  They weighted in a five fish bag with a weight of 15.92 pounds.  In that bag was the third place big fish at 5.63 pounds.  Chad and Steve were in all of the options and took home a check in the amount for $1,930.00.  Chad and Steve stated that they fished everywhere on the Delta to Connection Slough using drop shot thick worms and top water and drop shot methods.  Chad would like to thank his wife Jodi for her support and Steve wants to say thank You to his family for being there for him.  Congratulations anglers for taking first place. Second place went to the team of Ed Babb of Denair and Kevin Morrison of Oakdale.  Ed and Kevin weighted in five fish for a total weight of 14.55 pounds.  Their big fish wasn't big enough to get into the money, but these two anglers were in all the options and took home a total of $1,030.00.  Ed and Kevin stated that they fished all over the Delta and they used brush hogs, weightless worms and P J Pop lures while fishing top water and flipping weightless worms.  Ed would like to htank Patty Babb his wife for her sponsorship and support and Kevin would like to thank his wife Seana Morrison for her support also.  Great job anglers for taking second place at the Delta. Third place went to the team of Rick Perez and Ron Hunnewell.  They brought in five fish for a total weight of 14.38 pounds.  This team was in big fish option only and took home a check in the amount of $280.00.  Rick and Ron were unable to stay for the awards.  They are regular BBT anglers that fish with Randy so their winnings were given to Randy and Sheri  Pringle for their next tournament.  Congratulations for a job well done. Second place big fish went to the team of Jeff Czapia and Frank Harris.  They brought in a 5.75 pound bass and took home a check in the amount of $260.00.  Good job anglers. Congratulations to the team of Robert Muraco and Robert Kirschner for being the Anglers of the Year for the2014 Mother Lode Region. Well, it is hard to believe that our Mother Lode circuit for the 2014 year is over.  Next will be the TOC to be held at the Delta on October 11 and 12, 2014.  We will be blasting off from Russo's and I hope it won't be in the 100's.  It has been a great year and I want to thank each and every angler that came out and fished with us this year.  This has been a great year and I feel that we are a big family and I hope that we will be seeing each of you next year for the 2015 season.  Have a great summer and be safe. We would like to thank Dave Orange for being the Weigh Master, Mario Ramirez and Brian Orange, Rich Hale and Jim Henry, and Mike Martinez and Duane Goudy for being our staff boats for the Mother Lode Region.  A big thank you goes to Chelby Cheek for all her help starting with helping Mom in the morning with registration to setting up for the anglers and tearing down and packing up the trailer.  Again thank you Mark Giusti for your help with the Delta Tournament.
