ANGELO
AND MARIO QUEIROLO WIN
THE LAST TOURNAMENT IN THE 2014 SEASON
AND THE ANGLERS OF THE YEAR HAVE BEEN NAMED
We were set up in the Russo’s Marina office and taking
sign-ups before 4 AM on Saturday morning. As Safe Light was drawing closer and
most of the boats were in the water, Mathew Clark from our Coastal Region
checked in and he drew boat number 24 as the first boat out in the Big Boat
Division.
As it was getting closer for the sun to make an
appearance, the boats were staged and the Small Boats began to leave for their
first locations at safe light followed by boat number 24 and so on. The weather
was sunny and then the wind made an appearance. Some locations had more wind
than others, enhancing the day for some teams while others suffered with
catching their limit.
As Angelo Queirolo from Ripon and his cousin Mario
Queirolo from Manteca came to the scales with a nice limit weighing 26.95
pounds with their largest bass weighing 6.88 pounds for Fourth Place Big Fish
caught by Mario, giving them First Place in the Big Boat Division. They told the
crowd they caught their fish on Baby Bass and Red/Black Chatter baits deep into
the tules in Old River by Discovery Bay in the Tracy area in eight feet of
water which made their day successful. They walked away with two First Place
trophies and $2,605.00 in cash. Congratulations Angelo and Mario on your catch
of the day!
Mike Hamontree of Ceres and his partner Bronson Collins
of Salida came to the scales with five bass weighing 25.72 pounds for Second
Place and the largest weighing 7.13 pounds caught by Mike, giving them Third
Place Big Fish and Mike the Lunker Club status! They mentioned they fished the
south end of the Delta using top water and flippin’ techniques for their bass.
They took home trophies and $1,590.00 in winnings. Congratulations guys on your
Second Place win!
Third Place was the team of Matt Leverich from Oakley
and his partner Travis Tate from Brentwood. They came to the scales with their
limit weighing 20.91 pounds. Their largest bass weighed 6.55 pounds, not enough
for big fish but added to their weight gave them $865.00 in cash! They told the
crowd they fished frogs and weightless worms for their bass.
Fourth Place was the team of Nick Nourot and Ryan
Bottini, both from Benicia who came to the scales with 20.84 pounds for their
limit. They took home $600.00 in cash. Sweet!
Rounding out the top five in the Big Boat Division, Cameron
Cardoza from Ripon and his partner Dave Holmes from Tracy came to the scales
with 18.62 pounds anchored by the largest bass of the tournament, caught by
Cameron weighing 8.44 pounds! Cameron was so excited on his catch and took home
the First Place Big Fish trophy and became another member of the Lunker Club!
They won $1,015.00 in cash for their six hours on the Delta! Congratulations
guys!
As
anglers were going into the last tournament of the season in the Delta Wine
Region, the Anglers of the Year points were close so it was down to their final
weight to see who was to take the title. When the tournament was completed and
the results were uploaded onto the computer, the final results were in for the
BBT 2014 season.
CLAUDIO
SILVA AND JUAN CARLOS VELAZQUEZ
TAKE ANGLERS OF THE YEAR IN THE BIG BOAT
DIVISION DELTA WINE REGION
Congratulations to Claudio Silva and Juan Carlos
Velazquez for winning Anglers of the Year in your division! They did well
enough to hold their lead. We look forward to seeing you both at the TOC. Thank
you for fishing with Best Bass Tournaments!
CHUCK
AND AARON WOOD TOOK
FIRST PLACE AND WON THE TITLE OF ANGLERS OF THE YEAR IN THE
DELTA WINE SMALL BOAT DIVISION
The father and son team of Chuck and Aaron Wood from
Fairfield had a tough day on the Delta. They weighed in three bass and didn’t
think they had a large enough weight to place in their field, so they went
home. Their bass weighed 6.96 pounds which turned out to be First Place in the
Small Boat Division and also gave them enough points for Anglers of the Year.
Where they fished, what techniques they used, etc. is a mystery. They will receive
their trophies at the TOC. Congratulations Chuck and Aaron for winning the
title of Anglers of the Year in the Small Boat Division in the 2014 BBT season!
Honorable mentions:
Second Place Big Fish was caught by Vijay Malhotra of
Sacramento, weighing 7.59 pounds and became another member of the Lunker Club. Vijay
and his partner Scott Bern of San Rafael had a limit weighed 15.84 pounds for
their five bass, giving them Seventh Place in this tournament and $515.00 in
winnings.
Tony Vaughn from Sacramento caught the Fifth Big Fish of
the tournament weighing 6.75 pounds. Tony and his partner Thaxter Arterberry,
also from Sacramento weighed 13.76 pounds for their five bass for Fourteenth
Place. They took home $170.00 in cash. Nice!
Several anglers placed cash into the Todd Iwamoto
Memorial Fund tackle boxes, which will be given to Todd’s family, his wife
Michelle and their 9 year old son and their 5 year old daughter, after the TOC.
Anyone who would like to make donations to the family, the tackle boxes will be
present at The Bass Fest on August 23rd and 24th and at
the TOC. Todd was not only a friend of ours he was a BBT angler who lost his
life fishing in a boating accident. Thank you to everyone who has given money
in memory of Todd to his family.
As the Awards Ceremony began, Emerald Premium Snacks – packages
of the new Sweet and Salty Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Blend Nuts and Cinnamon
Roast Almonds were tossed to the anglers to enjoy while waiting to hear the
results from their day of fishing.
Boat numbers 8, 29 then 33 was drawn and the team of
Ronald Rushing and John Garrett were present to win the Wear It California
Campaign and walked away with the Life Jacket. As Randy was handing the life
jacket to the team, Gary Morris and Barry Mc Coy were actually present, boat
number 8 which was the first number called, so Randy also gave them a life
jacket since it took the team some time to walk up to the front. Enjoy your
life jackets and wear them!
A receipt was drawn for the Sponsor Tackle Bag
containing Yakima Baits, Timber Tiger, Poe’s Ace in the Hole, Berkley Havoc,
Berkley Power Baits and Stren fishing line. Kevin Ryan was the lucky angler who
was present to win this great prize.
