The fourth Central Valley Tournament of the Best Bass Tournaments Circuit was held at Don Pedro Lake on Sunday, April 15, 2012. This was the one and only tournament to be held on a Sunday. With this tournament the Central Valley anglers were able to boost that this was the biggest tournament yet for the Central Valley Region. There were a total of 41 boats. Great job Central Valley anglers. Don Pedro Lake is one of those lakes that most anglers like to fish. The weather was good, a few clouds in the sky and as always the breezes picked up in the afternoon. Don Pedro Lake is big, it had a lot of water and it was time for the fish to spun. We had been hearing that the catch was a good one. There is a lot of camping available at Don Pedro and several of our anglers took the opportunity to pre fish on Saturday, camp overnight and fish on Sunday in the tournament. At 4:00 a.m. the staff was ready for the anglers to start showing up. The coffee was made, goodies were laid out and the paperwork was ready for signatures and boat numbers. Boat checks were done at the ramp as the anglers readied their boats to be launched. All boat compartments were opened by the anglers and checked by our staff. Jim Ghidelli drew the lucky chip number 22 and the blast off was ready to begin. According to the Director, Kevin Cheek, blast off was to be at safe light. At approximately 6:20 a.m. our small boat was on its way, followed by forty more large boats. I don’t care how many blastoffs I watch it always amazes me to see one. It is quite outside, you hear the director call a number, you hear the roar of the boat motor, and another number is called another motor starts up and so forth. The anglers do a great job of getting in line by boat number which makes the blastoff easy. It took no more than five minutes and all forty one boats were on their way to at least eight hours of fishing. While the anglers were out fishing staff got ready for awards. Pop-ups went up, tables were setup, Sponsor banners hung-up, displays set out, trophies and giveaways laid out and then the most needed and deserved nap. At about 2:00 p.m. the scales were setup and the microphones were plugged in. We were ready for the anglers to bring in their catch for the day. First flight was scheduled to check in at 3:00 p.m., second flight at 3:15 p.m. and third at 3:30 p.m. We were going to do a drive by weigh-in so the bump tanks were filled with water for the safety of the fish. At 3:15 p.m. the first truck came by the scales. The fish were weighted and then returned to the lake. The scales were called closed by Kevin at 4:03 p.m. There was a total of 186 fish caught for the day with a total weight of 387.58 pounds. We had no dead fish brought in during the tournament. A job well done is given to the anglers for taking such good care of their days catch. After about fifteen to twenty minutes we were ready for the awards and give aways. First place went to the team of Eric Dewey and Casey Case, both of Riverdale, for their five fish weighing in at 22.36 pounds. This team also had big fish of the day at 6.67 pounds. Eric and Casey were all in on the options and took home a check in the amount of $1,945.00. They told us that they fished the river and used tubes, worms and rip bait. They also used the Texas Rig fishing method. Congratulations guys for a job well done. The team of Kyle DeKlevn and Dan Sexton took second place with their five fish weighing in at 17.05 pounds. They were all in on the options and also had 5th place big fish at 5.42 pounds, which gave them a check in the amount of $910.00. Kyle and Dan fished up the river and used jigs. They would like to thank their wives for being such good and loyal sponsors. Keep up the good work guys. With five fish and a total weight of 16.48 pounds, Nick Barse of Modesto came in third place. Nick’s didn’t bring a big fish but he did take home a check in the amount of $555.00. Nick said that he fished the upper bay, fished slow and used rip bait and swim bait. Nick, it isn’t easy to fish alone in a tournament, but you did a great job. Keep up the good work. Awards are something that everyone looks forward too. It is good to see the anglers stay and support their fellow anglers. A special congratulation goes out to each and every one of you. Remember to bring your receipts with you and drop them into the receipt box. Write your name and phone number on the back of your receipts before you turn them in and don’t forget that the receipts need to be for at least $20.00. The 20/20 Eye Surrender award goes to the team that comes in at 20th place. The husband and wife team of Dan and Stephanie Kerber of Madera took home a pair of Eye Surrender sunglasses. The Lenox award weight was 10.19 pounds and the team closest to the weight was boat number 33 with a weight of 10.12 pounds. Sorry to say this team went home so the tools will be going to the T.O.C. We had a 30th place award that went to the team of Joe O’Brian and Jack Brannon with their weight of 8.22 pounds. A boat draw was done for the Wacky award and the Call Often award. Again we would like to say congratulations to every one of you anglers for supporting the Central Valley Region of the Best Bass Tournaments Circuit. Our next tournament will be held on May 12, 2012 at Pine Flat. This should be a good tournament and we look forward to seeing all of you there. You must be PRESENT to win any prizes during the Awards Ceremony at every BBT event you fish or your prizes will be forfeited and given out at the TOC. If you happen to win cash and are not present to receive it, you must meet up with your tournament director as money is not sent in the mail.
