The Coastal Region held our third tournament of the year at Lake
Margarita on Saturday March 8, 2014. We had great weather with the sun shining
all day and a high of 73 with a slight breeze. We held check in Saturday
morning at 5am in front of the KOA store. We had 35 boats come out for the
event. The anglers were ready to get their boat numbers and compartments
checked so they could hurry and get in line to get on the water. Unfortunately with water levels low we were having
to use a one lane launch ramp. The boats where sent out in three different
flights with the first arriving back at 3pm.
Around 1:30pm we began getting everything set up for our
weigh ins. We were thankful that the owner of the marina store was kind enough
to let us use his covered patio hold our weigh in. we got our sponsor banners
hung, our scales put out, our prizes and displays also set up. We got our big
tubs out and full of water so the anglers could float their fish while waiting
to weigh in. As the anglers began to come in many of them said that it was a rough
day out on the water, while a few seem to have an easy day. As the anglers were
watching everyone weigh in we passed out our Diamond Food Emerald Nuts for the
guys to enjoy. After all the fish were weighed in we raffled out our sponsor
gifts as all the results were being taken care of. The anglers of boat number 9
where the winners of a very nice Batrums T-shirt. The anglers of boat 20 won a
life jacket from Wear It California. The anglers of boat 15 were the lucky
winners of a Batrums boat service certificate. The anglers of boat 27 won a
tackle bag full of products from all of our amazing tackle sponsors. A huge
thanks goes out to all of our sponsors for allowing us to hand out such great
products to our anglers.
Our First place team was Austin Bonjour and Larry Bonjour
from Atascadero who brought in a bag of bass containing 5 fish weighing in at a
total of 23.6lbs. They also had the biggest fish of the day weighing 8.82lbs
giving them total winnings of $1,755.00. They said it was a tuff day but they
caught their fish on cranks by the damn.
Our Second place went to the team of Jay Short and Damon
Meeks bringing in a bag of 5 fish with a total weight of 23.53lbs. They also
had our fourth big fish of the day for a total winning of $900.00. They said
they had a good day out on the water catching most of their fish at the river main
using cranks and swim baits.
Our Third place team consist of Jason Ballew and Doug Slayton
they weighed in a total of 5 fish that equaled 1816lbs. They also had the
second big fish weighing 6.70lbs. So they took home $695.00. They said they
fished all over the lake using blades and brush hogs.
Thank you to all of the anglers who
came out today to fish our tournament. I would also like to thank my staff Ray,
Tim, Scott, Bobby and Jennifer for doing a great job of helping the tournament
go smoothly. Let’s keep up the momentum as we head to the next one, you guys
are great and I am happy to be a part of this with all of you.
